A Preview of Free RPG Day's Upcoming Releases

A look at the free TTRPGs from Brotherwise Games, Paizo, White Wolf and more during the annual event featuring free games at your friendly local game store

Free RPG Day is an annual event hosted by local gaming stores, where owners offer free samples and quickstarts from a variety of popular IPs and game series. It is intended both to introduce the public to new TTRPG options and to encourage folks to visit local stores. Supplies may vary by store, but this is always a fun chance to see what others are creating in the space.

2026’s Free RPG Day is on Saturday, June 27. You can find a list of participating stores here. But what’s on the menu this year? Here are a few standout entries to consider.

Rescue on Raxil is a short one-shot 3rd-level adventure for Paizo’s Starfinder 2e where players will have to stop a corporation from destroying an entire environment.

Things Go To Hell is a short Pathfinder 2e adventure where the debt of a wizard is called in by devils, and the players (7th level in this instance) are asked to do so for him.

Three Days to the Big Easy is a scenario written for Edge Studios’ Arkham Horror, where players will investigate mafia, secrets, and curses all on a Mississippi paddleboat.

Goodman Games is releasing Pretenders to the Rat King’s Throne, a short adventure that is designed for either Dungeon Crawl Classics or Fifth Edition D&D.

Prefer a bit more violence and revenge in your life? White Wolf’s Vampire: The Masquerade is releasing Tradition of Destruction, a new standalone story for players to try.

Brotherwise Games has offered a free scenario for the Cosmere RPG, the game built off Brandon Sanderson’s fantasy setting.

If you can’t wait for Avengers: Doomsday, then you might find this Marvel Multiverse TTRPG one-shot preview interesting. It helps set the stage for the Secret Wars expansion, which is being released later this year.

Two quick reminders:

  1. Each store will have a limited supply of books as well as their own policies regarding items. Some may offer samples without demanding purchase, while others may reserve items for demos or other activities. For additional information, please reach out to your local store.

  2. If you are doing this, I recommend planning to purchase something at your friendly local game store. As much as we might hate to say it, Free RPG Day is a marketing event for the community. But it is not free. If you want to see stores and events like this in the future, then make sure you help them stay open by buying something.
