GenCon: Brotherwise Games Partners with Earthborne Games, Keith Baker
The team behind the Cosmere TTRPG is working with two gaming veterans to produce new settings for its upcoming ruleset, Plotweaver.
Welcome to special GenCon coverage! We’re publishing news on all the standout news releases and stories coming out of the four biggest days in tabletop gaming. To start off, we’re taking a look at new initiatives from Brotherwise Games, best known for publishing the Cosmere TTRPG. The company unveiled a number of new projects set in Brandon Sanderson’s fantasy world, but the standout news focused on Plotweaver, its new ruleset that got its start in the Stormlight Archives.

The teams behind Earthborne Rangers and Eberron are adapting Brotherwise Games’ Plotweaver ruleset for their own universes.
Brotherwise Games teased its plans for new games in 2026 at the GenCon Opening Ceremonies on Thursday. These included new board games, such as the upcoming Stormlight: War of Roshar. The new and outstanding unveils focused on two new publishers who are working with Brotherwise to create new TTRPGs using Plotweaver in the future.
Earthborne Games, the team behind the Earthborne Rangers and Hubworld: Aidalon board games, said that they will be making a Plotweaver TTRPG using the Earthborne Rangers setting. The world is set in the far future, where human rangers strive to survive in a world where human hands have barely touched it.
“Our fans have been asking for an Earthborne Rangers roleplaying game since day one, so we’re incredibly excited to finally make it happen,” said Earthborne founder & creative director, Andrew Navaro, in a press statement. “And to do it in partnership with another independent publisher as accomplished and beloved as Brotherwise is such a tremendous opportunity, we couldn’t be more grateful.”
The Earthborne setting will be an available option during the Plotweaver crowdfunding campaign in 2027.

The second partner is Keith Baker and Jenn Ellis’ Twogether Studios. The duo will create a new property titled Infinite that is meant to adapt to any heroic action story.
"Infinite is a truly unique setting; the experience at the table will change with every session," said Keith Baker, co-owner of Twogether Studios in a press statement. "Jenn and I believe that Plotweaver is the perfect system to deliver this experience, and we can't wait to share it."
Brotherwise also announced that they are conducting the Plotweaver Setting Search content, which will let RPG designers design and pitch their worlds to be considered as official releases from Brotherwise Games.
Details about the contest will be released at a later date, although interested parties were recommended to have submissions prepared by early 2027.

If players are interested in trying Plotweaver, Brotherwise is releasing the open alpha ruleset on August 5th alongside the Erstwild setting. Two additional settings, titled Splinterlight and Hexbeat, will release in September and October. A full open beta will begin in early 2027.

What is Plotweaver?

Plotweaver is a new TTRPG system designed by Brotherwise Games’ team to act as a setting-neutral set of rules for players to use. It was originally introduced in the TTRPG adaptation of Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archives, which was released in 2025. The ruleset uses a d20 system and somewhat standard character stats, but incorporates flexible character stats as well as a Plot dice to help make circumstances more interesting. It also uses talent trees to help make character creation flexible and skill-based powers to help players remain creative.
Brotherwise claims that the ruleset “combines rich mechanics with a narrative-first philosophy, telling stories of heroic action in which characters grow and advance over the course of epic fantasy and sci-fi campaigns.”
The Plotweaver ruleset’s independent launch was announced in December 2025 at Dragonmeet. The book will offer designers new tools to create games using the new ruleset, in a similar way that Chaosium’s Basic Roleplaying engine enables storytelling in Call of Cthulhu and EverQuest.
Brotherwise is expected to release Era 2 of the Cosmere TTRPG this fall, with books based on the Mistborn series. There are also plans to publish books based on the Cosmere’s Elantris, Worldhopper, and Warbreaker settings, although those have not been announced yet.
