GenCon Day 4: Darrington Press, Paizo and Downpours

Welcome to day 4 of GenCon aka the final day. It has been a whirlwind of news and reveals at the event over the last 96 hours. Most players spent the weekend attending shows playing games and hopefully connecting with friends near and far. While GenCon can often feel notably impersonal due to its 70,000+ average attendees, it's often one of the few places that TTRPG industry folks and creators get to meet in person.

That makes it something special.

I can certainly say that for myself. I spent the last four days running from interview to interview, chatting with folks and liveposting the big news on BlueSky. It's a lot of work but I adore it. This is a space of creatives that means a lot to me and this is one of the few ways I get to help serve it.

But that's enough blustering from me; you're here for news!

Nothing major was unveiled on Saturday or Sunday, although the con was struck with a tornado warning and subsequent flash flood warning on Saturday evening. I personally had to run from the convention center over to a coworking space for an interview through a torrential downpour, only for that interview to end up interrupted by a tornado warning. I'm very thankful to the Darrington Press folks for letting me chill with them while we were bunkering down.

Speaking of Darrington Press, I spoke with Daggerheart leads Elise Rezendes, Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford about HOPE AND FEAR as well as what comes next.

I also broke down the big releases from Paizo, who unveiled new Pathfinder and Starfinder volumes as well as their first new TTRPG IP in a while.

This will be my last GenCon check in. But please stay tuned! There's a lot of GenCon interviews and coverage coming down the pipeline when I get time to write it up. Again, one-man show over here.

In the meantime, I'll be heading home after today and taking a long nap.

GenCon 2026 Hit With Tornado Warning and Downpour

Weather is usually not the type of news I like to cover, but this was such a distinctly unique circumstance. Around 5 PM EST on Saturday, Indianapolis was hit by a fairly strong storm, leading to massive downpours. Around 5:20, a tornado warning was issued, causing the space to lock down.

Some fans posted video of the GenCon roof leaking, with water falling into the exhibit hall. Others were seen gathering in Lucas Oil Stadium while the warning was in effect.

Thankfully, the warning turned to a watch by 6 PM while the rain also lightened up. I’ve not heard any reports of damage, although it’s hard to imagine that the leaking in the GenCon roof didn’t affect a number of tables or booths. If you heard of anyone experiencing significant damage to their product, let us know!
