Q2 2026: Hasbro Loses $56 Million on Video Games, Including Canceled D&D Projects

Wizards of the Coast

Hasbro announced that it is down $56 million due to a “refocused Digital Games Portfolio for 2028 and beyond” in its Q2 2026 earnings report., after canceling multiple D&D-related video games.

Dungeons and Dragons owner Hasbro posted its earnings on Wednesday, detailing the state of business. "D&D is actually performing quite well as well, particularly D&D Beyond,” Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks said during an earnings call on Wednesday, although details beyond that were vague.

Warlock, which is the upcoming D&D-themed project focused on the class of the same name, as well as the sci-fi game Exodus are both still on the release schedule for 2027 and beyond and were held up as examples of Hasbro’s plans for gaming down the line.

The cancellations included an end to an unnamed project by Stig Asmussen’s Giant Skull, which was canceled earlier this year. Hasbro also delayed a GI Joe-themed project focused on the ninja agent Snake Eyes after shutting down its developer, Atomic Arcade.

Hasbro reported that revenue grew 16% year-over-year to $1.14 billion in Q2, according to its filing. This was primarily driven by a 27% growth in Wizards of the Coast-related sales and Digital Gaming, although Entertainment declined 20%.

Magic: the Gathering remained a top source of revenue for the company.

"Hasbro posted another quarter of topline growth, led by Wizards of the Coast," said Cocks in a press statement. "Magic: The Gathering eclipsed $500 million in quarterly revenue for the first time in its 30-plus year history, led by the record-breaking debut of Marvel Super Heroes. With strong indications for our remaining releases and line of sight to continued growth in 2027, the Magic flywheel is firing on all cylinders.”

AI remained a topic that was not discussed too much outside of Sixth Wall, a new studio formed by Hasbro to help it give others access to the IPs it owns.

Paizo and Fan Resource Archives of Nethys Reach Amends, Update Licensing Agreement

The fan-run Pathfinder resource Archives of Nethys announced that it is updating its relationship in a way that will be far more favorable to the company.

Last week, the website announced its license was coming to an end, much to the Paizo community’s dismay. The website posted an update on Friday, announcing that the two parties have reached an agreement that accommodates Paizo’s cost-cutting while maintaining access to content.

  • The website will remain an “official rules archive” for Starfinder 2e and Pathfinder 2e, including the ability to receive PDFS of the game early.

  • The partnership is less formal than the past license, which will “reduce oversight and work on Paizo’s part.”

  • The art will still be cut back, limiting the visual assets available to players.

  • The website will still host the Pathfinder 1e PRD

  • Textual changes to the website wil be minimal

“The Archives of Nethys is a vital resource for the Paizo community, and we are ready to support the volunteer team through these changes,” said Jim Butler, Paizo’s CEO in a press statement. “Open access to our games has always been a core tenet of Paizo and will remain so. We value the dedication of the Archives of Nethys volunteer team and are committed to supporting their work.”

“Thank you to the community for your amazing enthusiasm and support during this adjustment,” said Blake Davis, owner of the Archives of Nethys. “We hope that this agreement will allow the Archives of Nethys to continue supporting the Pathfinder and Starfinder communities for years to come."

Renegade Game Studios to make TTRPG Based on Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire

Renegade Game Studios announced that it was partnering with AMC Global Media to adapt the Anne Rice-authored Interview with a Vampire and Witches of Wayfair series of television shows into a tabletop roleplaying game.

“Create your own stories of vampires, witches, psychics, and ordinary humans whose lives become forever entwined through love, loyalty, ambition, and loss. Together, you'll build chronicles that span decades, or centuries, exploring the emotional consequences and impossible choices of immortality,” Renegade wrote in a press announcement of the event.

The game will begin crowdfunding in October 2026 with a starter set and rulebook based on the Interview with a Vampire series. It will be the first of several entries in the series, with future additions adding supplements for witches, psychics and the other supernatural elements of the world.

The game stands out since Renegade has been a long-time partner of World of Darkness/White Wolf, which publishes the somewhat similar Vampire: the Masquerade TTRPG as well.

It’s unclear if this deal affects the White Wolf/WoD partnership. Mechanically, the game claims to use memories and the past as a mechanic as well as multiple damage tracks and elements focusing on identity.

LitRPG Novel He Who Fights With Monster Gets TTRPG Adaptation

Catalyst Game Studios

Battletech and Shadowrun publisher Catalyst Game Labs announced this week that it is releasing a TTRPG and board game adaptation of He Who Fights With Monsters, a LitRPG novel by Travis Deverell aka Shirtaloon, later this year.

The game will focus on the world of Greenstone, where protagonist Jason Asano…fights monsters. It’s kinda in the name.

“I’m a huge fan of the fiction,” said Loren Coleman, Catalyst’s president. “Jason Asano is witty, sarcastic, occasionally overbearing, usually irreverent, but always and foremost a hero. Travis has created something special, and I can’t wait to fight monsters!”

‍The game is expected to crowdfund at a later date. A copy of the game’s alpha playtest rules will release during GenCon on July 30. Deverell is also expected to appear at GenCon to sign books and provide autographs.

The 5-novel series tells the story of Asano, an “office supplies store middle manager,” who is sent to a magical land where he gets evil powers to fight off monsters. The first book was published this month, with five additional books scheduled to release through 2027.

The book series appears to be a play toward the Dungeon Crawler Carl fandom, which as seen an immense surge of interest in recent years. The fact Catalyst is doing the board-game-and-TTRPG appears to be a play toward Renegade Game Studio’s $13 million crowdfunding campaign for the Dungeon Crawler Carl TTRPG.

This weekend was San Diego Comic-Con, and a lot of news is coming out of the event. Most of it isn’t terribly important to the TTRPG scene, but there’s a couple of interesting details that have come out.

  • Karlach, everyone’s favorite tiefling barbarian from Baldur’s Gate 3, is getting her own comic. The series will likely focus on her past in the Hells and how she ended up there.
