In this week’s issue, we’re going West to visit New Vegas. Fallout: New Vegas celebrated its 15th anniversary this year, and it’s considered by many fans of the post-apocalyptic video game franchise to be one of the better-written entries in the setting. That anniversary is why it’s fitting that New Vegas should act as the center of two big releases within the fandom. First is the second season of FALLOUT the TV show on Amazon Prime. It’s also the setting for ROYAL FLUSH, the new campaign guide and quest book published by Modiphius Entertainment. Players will get to explore New Vegas before the events of the video game, setting the stage for what is to come.
TTRPG Insider got to interview game designer Ben Maunder to chat about the game, adapting the property, and a lot more.

What should players be expecting from the Royal Flush campaign? What sort of story?
Maunder: Royal Flush is a human story at its core, one set into motion by the ideals of a single person who cannot help but see the world from a single perspective; one of conflict. Across the Mojave, hundreds of weapons are ending up in the hands of people throughout the Sierras and the Mojave, who are all too eager to use them. Their reasons for doing so may differ—from wanton violence to a need to defend themselves—but when people are given all the tools needed to enforce their will on the world around them, conflict is inevitable. Players will find themselves right in the middle of this narrative, watching tensions build up across the wasteland as they both face and try to determine the source of this rapid accelerationism. It asks them a question of values: do they value peace, or the means to enforce peace? Do they wish to try to stem the flow of weapons or encourage it? Fallout has always been about big decisions with big consequences, and Royal Flush is no different.
How do the events in the book relate to Season 2 of Fallout or to New Vegas? Is it assuming a canonical ending to New Vegas, or leaving things vague and undefined?
Maunder:Royal Flush is set just prior to the events of New Vegas, and great care was taken during the planning process to ensure that no matter what happens—the stage of the Mojave is still set for the events that spark the story of the video game.
How will this sourcebook contrast with past Fallout content like Winter of Atom? Is it a full campaign? How long would you expect it to take players?
Maunder: Royal Flush is a full campaign, exactly like Winter of Atom, taking new characters from level 1 to level 21! In addition to the full campaign (which we anticipate will take anywhere between 9-18 full three hour sessions to complete) there are also new character options, rules, equipment and NPCs to be used across future games! The most exciting are the new origins for Enclave Remnants, Followers of the Apocalypse, and Vipers.

Are there Easter eggs you can tease that you’re excited about?
Maunder: A lot. Too many to really count, we had a wonderful team of writers involved in the creation of Royal Flush who have all hidden their own little signatures and references to both Fallout’s history and other things close to their hearts. A special mention goes out to Jesse Heing who worked on the original Fallout video games, and led the narrative design of this book.
Is this a campaign more aimed toward veteran players of the Fallout TTRPG or can newer players jump in with ease?
Maunder: We aim to have our Quest books hit both embedded and brand new players, the story itself provides an excellent jumping on point for those new to the system, and the new rules and options keep it interesting and fresh for older players.
6. What is something you are excited for players to discover in this book?
Maunder: The new character options are always fantastic to see hit the public, watching how they’re brought into new characters' stories online (be that discord, actual plays etc!) is a lovely experience. Same with people’s reactions to the plot of the main quest and the NPCs they meet. It’s a wild ride, and hearing about their experiences really is the best feeling from working on and publishing a campaign like this.
Royal Flush is scheduled for a physical release in Jan. 2026. You can now pre-order the book and receive a copy of the PDF.
