It is your GenCon 2026 Day 2 update! Thursday had a plethora of big reveals. Daggerheart previewed its plans for the next three years, including two books a year.

White Wolf unveiled the alpha test for Vampire: The Masquerade

Finally, Dungeons and Dragons previewed its plans for the rest of 2026 and 2027, establishing a tradition of unveiling roadmaps at GenCon for the foreseeable future.

Friday, in contrast, is going to be a bit calmer on my end. The Ennies are expected to announce later tonight. Might have more details from Paizo by tomorrow. We will see!

On an unrelated note, Dungeon Crawler Carl is clearly a big theme at GenCon in the wake of Renegade Game Studios’ push of the TTRPG and board game earlier this year. I’ve seen a half-dozen Carls and at least a dozen Princess Donuts. The latter is usually just cat ears and a crown. But it’s what the cat deserves.

Darrington Press Promises Two Book Releases a Year

Daggerheart, the popular TTRPG designed by the team at Darrington Press and Critical Role, announced that it is stepping up its game over the next three years, promising to publish two “tentpole” Daggerheart books a year until 2030.

The publisher previewed its plans for the next three years during Daggerheart Next, its GenCon preview event. While a timeline was not presented for when the books will be released, it said that the books would be entirely different than the core rulebook and the expansion Hopes and Fears.

White Wolf Previews Revamp of Vampire: the Masquerade

White Wolf unveiled its plans for updating the popular political/personal horror game Vampire: the Masquerade; the first project that the newly rebranded team is redesigning.

One Ring, Digital Platform Feature at Free League Presentation

Three new books for The One Ring and a new digital platform dedicated to Free League games were the top reveals at Free League’s big presentation at GenCon 2026.

Free League CEO Tomas Härenstam and a number of partners and designers appeared at the presentation on Thursday, where they announced their newest projects.

The biggest release was a trio of new books for The One Ring 2e, the company’s adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s fantasy IP.

The books will include the bestiary Creatures Strange and Small, the Rohan-based campaign The White Tower and Hall of Gold and Roleplaying in the Lord of the Rings, an updated player’s handbook.

The game is going to crowdfund on Backerkit in 2026.

The other big unveil is Free League Unbound, a new digital platform designed by DnD Beyond founder Adam Bradford. The website is a new toolset that hosts digital copies of Free League games. It will eventually have a character creator, Bradford said.

The website is currently available in early access.

Härenstam also previewed the eventual release of the Alderland expansion for Forbidden Lands as well as the eventual release of a Twilight: 2000 book named Operation Reset.

All the Details from the 2027 D&D Vision Keynote

The big reveal on Thursday was Dungeons & Dragons’ Vision Keynote, where D&D Lead Dan Ayoub and the company’s design team previewed a number of projects going into 2027. The list included a return to Dark Sun, adapting Azeroth for D&D, and a tease of a Star Wars game. You need to read all the details below.
